Therapeutic Pilates: Hip Replacements on Reformer

According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons over 300,000 hip replacements are performed each year. Surgical approaches, hip prostheses and rehabilitation protocols have changed dramatically over the past five years. It’s critical for movement professionals to stay informed on recent advances in hip replacements and care.

Long before a client gets a hip replacement they’ve developed many compensations and non-optimal movement patterns because of pain and loss of motion. In this workshop, participants will learn about the issues that lead to a hip replacement(s), and explore detailed information on the multiple types of prostheses, surgical approaches and contraindications. Discover how to use therapeutic Pilates to restore hip and pelvic control and unwind the patterns of compensation throughout the body. Pilates programming and modifications are specially selected to restore the strength, balance, proprioception and reflexes required for daily life, sport, and quality living. This is a three hour, intensive workshop for Pilates specialists with teaching experience.

    ZEN•GA™ Full Body Integration

    Bring focus to mindful movement.

Receive practical tools to learn, create, and cue quality movements that reinforce the ZEN·GA™ principles of Breath, Support, Yield and Flow. This workshop incorporates new research linking fascia to muscle contraction, force transmission, posture and proprioception.

Therapeutic Pilates: Restore & Manage Flexibility and Mobility

We know that balanced strength and mobility is crucial for a healthy body, yet it’s often unclear how to work successfully with a client with too much mobility, too little or both. There are reasons why stretching programs don’t work for some people.

All tissue in the body can adapt and change with the right input and enough time. In this workshop, we’ll look at the causes of restriction within joints, muscles, fascia and the nervous system, and provide a process for differentiating the source of the problem. Based on the cause of “tightness” or restriction, we’ll adapt therapeutic Pilates exercises to reset length and control. The science of stretching will be at the center of this discussion.

The next phase of this workshop will address hypermobility—both globally and locally. We’ll take an in-depth look at the causes and consequences of hypermobility, and how therapeutic Pilates can be used to restore control.

This in-depth workshop is designed for experienced movement and health professionals with a Pilates practice. It will provide practical therapeutic Pilates reasoning, modifications, and programming to go along with the science of movement.
