Therapeutic Pilates for Health Professionals

Rehabilitation Courses are available only to degree-qualified/certified professionals and licensed Physical Therapy Assistants with a solid base of understanding in anatomy, physiology, and pathology. You will learn how to integrate therapeutic Pilates into clinical practice.

All Rehab courses are taught by PNWP Owner Melanie Byford-Young, STOTT PILATES® Rehab Master Instructor Trainer and Erica Loder, Instructor Trainer. Melanie was an initial contributor to STOTT PILATES rehabilitation curriculum. Her sterling credentials and passionate teaching style draw clients to the PNWP studio and make Melanie sought-after internationally; she teaches in Europe, the Middle East, Pacific Rim and North America.

Rehabilitation Courses Objectives Summary

  • Examine the therapeutic foundation of STOTT PILATES and how it integrates with current rehabilitation practices
  • Learn to teach and apply STOTT PILATES five basic principles
  • Explore the choreography, modifications, indications and contraindications for rehab exercises (Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels)
  • Develop ability to assess proper form for each exercise and how to correct improper execution

Rehab Course Descriptions

Rehab Level 1 (RM1 and RR1): Spinal, Pelvic & Scapular Stabilization on Mat and Reformer

RM1 and RR1 courses introduce the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and therapeutic Mat and Reformer exercises.  The emphasis is on restoring dynamic stability and neuromotor control to the pelvis, spine and shoulder girdle.

You will learn:

  • STOTT PILATES five basic principles
  • To identify proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cues and imagery
  • Clinical problem-solving using STOTT PILATES Method
  • Spinal, scapular and pelvic conditions
  • 90 exercises and modifications to manage conditions from acute injuries to sports reconditioning

Rehab Level 2 (RM2 and RR2): Peripheral Joint Stabilization on Mat and Reformer

RM2 and RR2 build upon bio-mechanical and stabilization principles learned in RM1 and RR1, to prevent and rehabilitate common upper and lower extremity injuries. The emphasis is on restoring optimal function of the peripheral joints with the core.

You will learn:

  • To identify proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cuing and imagery
  • Clinical problem-solving
  • Injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle
  • 45 exercises and modifications to manage conditions from acute injuries to sports reconditioning

Prerequisite: RM1 (for RM2) and RR1 (for RR2)

Rehab: Spinal, Pelvic and Scapular Stabilization on Cadillac, Chair & Barrels (RCCB1)

RCCB1 teaches medical professionals how to use the different levels of resistance and support provided by the Cadillac Trapeze Table, Stability Chair and Barrels to improve mobilization and stabilization of the spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle.

You will learn:

  • To identify proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cuing and imagery
  • Clinical problem solving
  • Focus on spinal, pelvic and scapular conditions
  • 70 exercises and modifications to manage conditions from acute injuries to sports reconditioning

Prerequisite: RM1 or RR1

Rehab: Peripheral Joint Stabilization on Cadillac, Chair & Barrels (RCCB2)

Building upon knowledge gained in previous rehab courses, RCCB2 will advance medical professionals’ abilities to manage a wide variety of upper and lower extremity issues using the Cadillac, Stability Chair and Barrels. This course includes exercises to improve local stability, proprioception, weight-bearing and sports conditioning.

You will learn:

  • To identify proper execution and movement patterns
  • Effective verbal cues and imagery
  • Clinical problem solving
  • Focus on the injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle
  • 70 exercises and modifications to manage conditions from acute injuries to sports reconditioning

Prerequisite: RCCB1
